Zakat al-Fitr

Zakat al-Fitr (fitrana) calculator

Estimate the Zakat al-Fitr due for your household before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, either from a locally announced amount or from the price of a staple food.

How would you like to calculate?

Use the per-person amount announced locally, for example by a fatwa committee.

Guidance and sources

Who pays

Every Muslim who owns more than their basic needs for the day and night of Eid pays Zakat al-Fitr for themselves and for each dependent in their care.

When it is due

It should reach the poor before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Giving it one or two days before Eid is recommended, and the majority hold that it must not be delayed past the prayer.

Food or cash

The majority of scholars require a staple food, while the Hanafi school permits giving its cash value instead. This is why yearly cash amounts are announced in many places, and several contemporary fatwa bodies endorse paying in cash.
